Bono
Tony, with degrees in respiratory care, nursing, healthcare
administration, and a doctor of science in health has 35 years experience in
healthcare facilities. While most of his time has been spent in private
healthcare facilities, he did spend 3 years as a contract manager for
cardiopulmonary departments with the Public Health Service in
New Mexico
. He has a hands-on, ground-up approach to problem solving, using education and
experience to avoid and overcome difficulties. A global knowledge base allows an
overview of situations eliminating tunnel vision in problem solving and speeding
outcomes.
He has participated in over 20 Joint Commission surveys and has had
projects including physician profiling, core measure compliance achievement, and
performance measures taken by the Joint Commission as “Best Practices”.
He is one of only two individuals elected to two terms as President of the
Texas Society for Respiratory Care, and has served a total of 16 years on that
Board in various positions. He currently serves as the Research and Disaster
Preparedness Chair for that Board and has published national articles on “The
Return of our Ancient Adversary, Tuberculosis”, and “the Avian Flu”. Tony
has spoken to various groups on management, ethics, avian flu, vaccine
development, and other areas of healthcare over 200 times.
Tony was selected by the Texas Department of Health
Services in November 2006 to attend the Statewide Committee as a voting
representative in the “Plan to Reduce Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke”
project. He was also selected by the Department of Health Services to attend the
regional conference held in
Austin
on Avian Flu/Pandemic Preparedness in Spring of 2006.
He successfully wrote and coordinated applications and
surveys for Chest Pain Centers of Excellence and Disease-specific Stroke
Certification. In March of 2005,
Tony added the CPHQ credential to his list of accomplishments. His current areas
of concentration include core measures, evidence-based medicine, disaster
preparedness, and development of management strategies.
